Asbestos Awareness Training

All workers that could potentially expose themselves to asbestos are required to attend asbestos awareness training. These are typically workers that disturb a buildings structure such as; demolition contractors, electricians, plumbers and similar trades.

Exemption from asbestos awareness only applies where employers demonstrate work will only be carried out on buildings free of ACM’s. This information should be available in the client’s Asbestos Management Plan.

HAS offers training that covers the following topics in appropriate detail through both written and oral presentation:

The properties of asbestos and its effects on health, including the increased risk of lung cancer for asbestos workers who smoke.

The types, uses and likely occurrence of asbestos and ACM’s in buildings and plant.

The general procedures to be followed to deal with an emergency, for example an uncontrolled release of asbestos dust into the workplace.

How to avoid the risks from asbestos. For example, the fabric of a building should not be disturbed unless the employer confirms no ACM’s are present.

Asbestos awareness training can be tailored to suit the individuals attending the course. We are happy to add focus and include your own asbestos survey or specific examples related to your trade (e.g. window replacements).

The course includes an introduction to working with asbestos and extended discussions about the legal aspects and asbestos management. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
