Birmingham Asbestos Removal Firm Fined by HSE

A Birmingham based asbestos removal firm have been fined by the HSE for failing to meet standard requirements during removal works.

Birmingham Magistrates Court heard that Enviro-Safe Ltd. failed to accurately assess the risks involved when removing asbestos containing materials from separate projects. This lead to both the firm’s employees and others becoming exposed to dangerous asbestos fibres which can cause asbestos related diseases such as mesothelioma, a type of lung cancer. An article released by the HSE detailed that the risks involved and were failed to be identified, would have been prevented by using enclosures to protect the workers and others from the dangerous asbestos fibres.

HSE inspector Amy Kalay said after the trial “Exposure to asbestos fibres is extremely dangerous to people’s health and the company had a total disregard for this when they failed to prevent the risk to their employees.”
After pleading guilty to breaching regulation 16 Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, Enviro-safe Ltd. have been fined £16,000 and ordered to pay costs of £7,731.13.
